Carbon Fibers and Graphite as Pore-Forming Agents for the Obtention of Porous Alumina: Correlating Physical and Fractal Characteristics

Porous alumina ceramics with different porosities were prepared via atmospheric pressure sintering using a sacrificial template method powder as the raw material and carbon fiber (CF) graphite pore-forming agents. The effects of contents ratios agents aspect CF on microstructure, mechanical properties, pore size, pore-size distribution porous samples investigated. In addition, surface fractal dimension (Ds) was evaluated based mercury intrusion porosimetry data. showed single, double, or multiple peaks. structure maintained fibrous shape original flake morphology uniform distribution, but different. With increase in content agent, porosity gradually increased to maximum 63.2%, flexural strength decreased minimum 12.36 MPa. obvious characteristics. Ds closely related parameters when agent 70 vol.%. It an sample porosity, most probable size median strength.
